We're in San Antonio at the State Marching Finals. (And me without my camera cord!)
Twenty bands marched in preleminaries today. They just announced the finalists (only seven finalists today) and we will be the first band to march at finals starting at 7:00 tonight. They will present the awards at 9:00 tonight.
The kids have done an outstanding job. The competition seems really tough. Since this is our first year, we really don't know what it's been like in the past, but these bands are really good. One of the teams is a military band (which was news to us) it was a lot of fun to watch, they made it to finals also.
I'm really confused about color guard. Some bands don't have one, some bands have huge ones, some bands have small ones. I don't know how you factor all that in. Plus, why would a person choose to learn how to twirl a rifle for half a year, only to have it be a GLARING error when you drop it in competition. No thanks, I'll play an instrument.
The kids worked SO hard this week and their director was REALLY hard on them, on Friday he finally complemented them and told them they looked ready. They were all flying high. Then at the football game Friday night, my kid fell down during the program. Can you even imagine the pressure? All I've been doing since this season started is praying, "Please Lord, just don't let him fall down."
Today no one's fallen. So far. Let us now bow our heads in a moment of silence.
